て形けい

Te-form

Connects clauses, makes requests (〜てください), and forms ている (progressive / state).

Recommended first

When to use

  • Sequence: 食べて、寝た
  • Request: 座ってください
  • Progressive: 読んでいる

How to form

  1. 1Godan: change the final kana using the sound-change (音便) table, then add て.
  2. 2Ichidan: drop る, add て (食べる → 食べて).
  3. 3する → して; 来る → 来て (きて).
  4. 4Always identify the dictionary-final kana row before applying the table.

Cautions

行く → 行って (not ×行いて).
